About Me
I learned to sew in 2011 when my first son was born. I am self-taught, with a lot of reliance on modern sewing and quilting bloggers and tutorials. I love sewing and making quilts with modern fabrics and designs. I have been a longarm quilter since 2019, when I purchased my computerized Handi Quilter Forte with Pro-Stitcher. My focus with longarm quilting is on computerized edge-to-edge designs. I am a member of the Longarm League and inspired daily by other longarm quilters.
When I purchased my longarm machine, I started this business with the intent of quilting for others. I came up with the name Flat Street Studio in memory of my Mom. She passed away suddenly in February of 2018. She was my world. She loved my quilts. She loved everything I sewed. She called me Betsy Ross...haha. When she died, she lived in a house on Flat Street in the town in which she grew up and where so many of her friends and family lived. Sewing and quilting, especially longarm quilting, has been instrumental in my grief process.
I have lived in New Hampshire for my entire life. I love everything about this state, but especially the Fall season, the lakes, the mountains, the ocean, our first in the nation Presidential primaries. I have my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and my Master's Degree in Social Work. I have worked in the field of macro social work/community organizing, public health, and substance use disorders since I received my MSW in 2004. I am a lucky, grateful mom of two young sons.
